Lily and I are going swim lessons this summer, a mommy and me class. It is four days per week for six weeks in an outdoor pool. I am hoping to lose some on my neon white glow. We use sunscreen but 24 hours in the sun is going to have to make some sort of mark on my skin. Or not.
Lily is doing great. Yesterday was lesson two and she actually floated on her back by herself. She loves the water as much as I do and we two are having a blast. I am having so much fun with Lily this summer. In the back of my head I am feeling the ever present thought of her leaving me for kindergarten in just a couple of short months. Five years of 24/7 and poof in a couple of months we will be separated for hours and hours every day. Who thought of this school thing anyways?
I Think I May Have A Screw Loose

I saw my podiatrist yesterday. One part of my foot is still hurting (it's
been almost two months since the surgery). He thinks it may be one of the
screws ...

hooray for swimming! we moved to a neighborhood with a pool, and we are there absolutely all the time. i'm glad you are having fun
nosey, bossy, unrequested assvice: you might want to "practice" having lily do things without you to ease her into the kindergarten separation. maybe a baby sitter for a few hours or take a class without you? it's going to be a big transition that might take some time.
go ahead, tell me to shut up. it's ok. :-)
Mamadaisy: You are right, I am trying to get Lily advanced to the no mommy class but the instructors are leery of her inability to listen. We have six weeks so we will see if that happens. I have taught her to read and do pretty much everything she will be learning in kindergarten so if she is behind the others in being able to be away from her mom at least that wont effect her learning. For Lily kindergarten will be the time for learning to be away from mom and be a little independent. That is what it was for in the past I guess we are old fashioned, although that is completely unintentional.
I am feeling the same way about Jake. When he was three, it was a much different feeling! LOL But now I truly enjoy him. Regarding your comment to Mamadaisy: I agree with her. Be prepared when she enters K she will probably be one of the only kids who has not been in a school like environment, she may have a really hard time and you are going to have to be tough and walk away from her each morning. It will break your heart, but as a K teacher, I can tell you it will be the best thing you can do for her, and for you too.
I have many happy memories of swimming lessons when I was little. What a great way to spend some time this summer.
Lily is going to be riding the bus so I just have to push her up the steps and watch the little door close behind her.
How wonderful that you found a mommy and me swimming lesson, and how great it is that Lily likes the water...so many children don't. As far as kindergarten...you've been through it before...and you know it's just the beginning of letting them go. sigh. Being a parent sure isn't easy. sigh
