My birthday was a lot of fun. We went to New Orleans and saw some art. I think the thing I like best about going on trips is the fact that we spend time together as a family. Stuck together in the car for hours on end, we have to talk to each other. My family is fun and full of energy and I enjoy hanging out with them. Most of the time everyone is so busy that we are just passing each other at meals and what not.
This coming weekend we are taking a trip up to visit Jeff's family in Virginia, lots of time together, Yeah. Too bad I am starting school this week. I am desperately trying to get ahead of the game so that I can enjoy my vacation. But, I am running into a lot of stumbling blocks. I have to download a ton of programs to the computer and install them and it is not going well. Once that gets done I think I will be ok.
We are going to be visiting Washington DC one day during our trip, I have never been. We are trying to come up with something that might be Lily friendly to do in DC. We will definetly be going back some day, and I don't want to try and see it all. Any suggestions? What is fun to do in DC?
We are also going to spend a couple of days in Tennessee seeing the Smoky Mountains. I have never been to Tennessee either, any advice on what to see or do? Jeff wants to follow trails and look at mountains. Ok, now that a half an hour is done what next. ha.ha.
Thanks for all the good advice and birthday wishes last week.
I Think I May Have A Screw Loose
-
I saw my podiatrist yesterday. One part of my foot is still hurting (it's
been almost two months since the surgery). He thinks it may be one of the
screws ...

There is plenty to do in DC. Go to the Smithsonians, they are awesome especially the history one. Plus it is free! OF course you got to go look at monuments. It will be a little hard on Lily, but I think she will enjoy some of the history one. Tennessee is awesome too. I love Nashville and Memphis. Memphis is probably to far, but Nashville shouldn't be to far a drive. If you can go to the Grand ol Opre do it, visit the hotel too. Tennessee is just plain beautiful. Have a great trip. What did you think of NO? Happy Birthday by the way!
Glad to hear that you had a wonderful birthday. I have such fond memories of traveling with my family, when I was younger...These are good memories that you are giving your children. Sorry I don't have any suggestions as to what would be fun to do in D.C. for Lily...if you ever come to the west coast, I will have tons of suggestions for you.
I live in the DC area. I try to avoid it at all costs. :) I *do* like taking the subway around town, though. The Smithsonian in DC is great, and the aviation one by Dulles airport in Virginia looks interesting (haven't been yet). Check out the website http://www.washington.org for more ideas for visiting DC, maps, and visitor information. Have fun!
Kimberly ~ Thanks for the trip advice. On our trip to NO we drove straight to the Museum and then straight home. There has been some more progress toward the recovery from Katrina. Still saw thousands of homes that were unlivable just from the freeway. The museum was nice reminded me of being in Paris.
Lynn ~ I am from the west coast too! Born in Seattle, moved to Elk Grove - just outside of Sacramento when I was 12. I feel like I am a California girl at heart. I have noticed with all the travels that my culture is for the most part Californian with a smidgen of Seattle mixed in. I am having a blast getting the opportunity to see so much of our country now.
Lorelei ~ Thanks Lorelei for the great tips. I hope now that we live so close that we will get a chance to go to see DC many more times and see it all.
I have driven from Mississippi to DC a jillion times - I lived just outside of DC in Virginia for a good long while - so I have an idea just what you'll see on the way.
Hope it's a good trip!
The Zoo. Go the the Zoo in DC.
Williamsburg, Virginia. Don't miss it. Your daughter will love the DC ZOO~
