mismatched kid

What do you do when your daughter picks our her own outfit and it doesn't match? Lily picks out her own clothes and dresses herself everyday. Today she is wearing a pair of shorts that have a white background and a turquoise blue gingham checkerboard pattern, her top is white background with a green leaf pattern. If I say something we will fight. It will set the tone for the day. If I don't say anything, this is what she will wear all day. Oh well at least she is cute. For some reason she always picks this outfit and it drives me crazy. So far I have not mentioned to her that it does not match.

Wish I had my camera, Mandy took it with her , she is visiting her grandparents in Arizona. Hope she takes pictures.

Ahhh...but you have to love someone with their own unique sense of style! And Lily is so cute that she can carry off an outfit like that.

I would advise you to leave it alone. You don't need to have a power struggle over this. No harm is being done.

When I was in first grade I insisted to my mother that I be allowed to wear to school my colonial long red gingham dress my great-aunt had made for me. I felt like a pilgrim. It made me happy and that's all that matters.

my kids are the same way! i think they only have control over what goes into their mouths and what goes (or stays!) on their bodies, so that makes those choices VERY important to them.

besides, she's such a cutie, people probably just think her dad dressed her ;)

I wouldn't say anything...come to think of it, when my kids made those "interesting clothing choices", I never said anything about it...it wasn't worth the argument, and they soon got the idea re: what matched, from the other kids at school. Besides, I felt that their chosing their own clothing fostered their independence!

Today she picked a totally cute outfit, lucky too since we are having people over for the fourth. Thanks for all the great advice.
