A Permit to Drive

Mandy has had her driving permit to drive with an adult in the car for nearly a year. In two weeks it expires. We haven't really been driving. She doesn't like to drive. I don't like to white knuckle it in the passenger's seat. Mandy's driving has brought out the worst in both of us. Now we have two weeks until her permit expires. We can get another one. We have instead decided to go for it. At least try to learn to drive in the next two weeks and go for the test. Even if she fails at least she will know what it is like.

We went for a two hour drive today. It started out rough. By the end we were having a very nice chat and we were both feeling a little better. Hopefully it will be even better tomorrow.

Oh sister, i feel your pain. My fingerprints are permanently gouged in the handhold of Em's car.

I try to play it cool with DS while he drives but inside I'm crossing myself -- and I'm not even Catholic. NC requires 18 months with a permit before you can apply for a regular license. I'm not looking forward to the next 18 months.

My son doesn't like to drive either. He FINALLY got his drivers' license at 22! But he put it off as long as he could. My daughter will be old enough to get her permit soon. ACK!

I am so glad that Jake is only 4! By the time he can drive I will probably be considered to old to have a license! LOL, so he will have to ride his bike!

Meno: thanks glad I am not the only one.

Lorelei: I am not doing so well at the playing cool.

Katya: I guess there is hope for Mandy. I didn't get my lisence until I was 18, maybe it runs in the family.

Kimberly: Probably a motorbike. LOL.

I hate driving, too... didn't get my license until I was 21 1/2, living in a tiny, nearly roadless town of 1,000 people and taking care of my grandma by myself. And my mother and I were not a good team in the car while I was learning... her best friend (a former driving instructor) had to drive down from Dallas and stay with us for a week to teach me the basics.

I was secretly relieved when the Swiss driver's license office refused to convert my Texas license to a Swiss one...

It makes me want to know more about your daughter, that she isn't going crazy with craving the freedom of a license. She must be a very content girl.

I hope she gets it.

My younger son wasn't too hot to drive either. I thought something was wrong with him. I am fine when I ride with him now--no white knuckles--but if he goes out alone, I worry. He has had one accident and a speeding ticket. Maybe that's why I am glad he doesn't have a car at college. Good luck with Mandy.
