Jeff had the day off from work yesterday, Mandy had to go to school. We never seem to have time together as a family anymore. Mandy works weekends, she will be seventeen at the end of this month. Gasp.
Jeff, Lily and I went over to Mobile yesterday to the Target. Jeff was embarrassed that we would drive an hour to go to Target. He did not understand that there is a difference between Target and Walmart. It was fun. The Target we visited was in a Mall, much larger than the malls we have over here. We all had a great time. Would you drive an hour for Target?
We are still discussing vacation ideas. I am more of an explorer. I want to go and see some of the pre-civil war mansions and some of the battle sites from the civil war. Or I would like to go and see the Mississippi river, maybe take a cruise. Jeff wants to go to Disney, or Jackson to see our capital, or to the Smokey Mountains for hiking and Dollywood. I am thinking we should take separate vacations. Just kidding, I am going to have to amp up my powers of persuasion. I cannot believe that no one in my family wants to look at old mansions with me. We went to endless castles in Europe, many of which were built around the same time as these mansions wouldn't it be fun to compare. I guess my family feels if it ain't overseas it is just a house.
I am having very little success with Lily and her behavior modification. She is slowly coming around. I would say that she is still hitting as a habit but she is not losing her temper quite as much or for as long. I feel that being able to put a lid on a temper tantrum is a big step and I am proud of her. Now we just have to break the bad habit of hitting me or herself when she is frustrated. I am starting this week with some hope for improvement. Hope is good.
I Think I May Have A Screw Loose

I saw my podiatrist yesterday. One part of my foot is still hurting (it's
been almost two months since the surgery). He thinks it may be one of the
screws ...

We just got back from an impromptu trip to Houston and it was a good time for the kids. We took a side trip to San Antonio and the kids loved the Alamo and the riverwalk. I hope, wherever you go, you have a great time and a rest. Getting kids through the tantrum stage is the toughest part of parenting.
there is a HUGE difference between walmart and target. i would drive a long way.
when i was little, we used to take a summer trip to see Rock City and Ruby Falls in the smokey mountains. i always thought it was cool as a kid.
Can I make what may sound like a crazy suggestion for Lily? Buy her one of those stand-alone punching bags they sell at the sporting goods stores. You could put a little stool in front of it so she can easily get to it (if it can't be lowered) and she can have easy access every time she's frustrated. Not only might it help her get out her frustrations (at least when she's home), but it's wonderful exercise! Maybe she'll be a famous boxer one day. You could also buy the blow-up boxer gloves they sell for kids and have a boxing match every day. This could help turn what is a negative behavior into a positive one? maybe? It's an idea anyway...
When you try to cahnge a behavior, it will get worse for a while, as the child tests you and tries to get you to give it up.
So keep at it.
I would drive very very far to get to a Target. There are about 5 Target stores within 25 miles of my house (that I can think of off the top of my head)...Many more even further that I would travel to without a second thought. In fact, we are off to Target tonight:~)
Target (pronounced in the original French, Tarzhay), has never been a big choice of mine. Barnes and Noble, however.... :)
Now he would travel how far? for those buttery buns at the Golden Corral and complains about the drive to Target!
I see from your next post that Jeff won, huh? I would prefer to look at historic buildings any day too! I was just thinking today about how we never spend time doing things together as a family much anymore. We don't have long to drive anywhere (the longest drive we have is ten minutes) and I homeschool, so in the evenings, I am DONE and just want to not have primary responsibility of the kids, you know? But those long family drives where we all are forced to be together...I miss them. I can't wait for spring/summer sports when we all go to the games together. Sigh. I guess it's just our stage of life.
Oh we just got back from two trips to the Smoky Mountains - one in December and one 2 weeks ago...love it up there! Disney World on the other hand - ugh!! We love hiking and seeing "old houses" and war stuff....went to Gettysburg,PA 3 years ago on a vacation and we loved it!
