An accomplishment

I have been diagnosed with Anemia, I have had it before, but after taking the iron for a few days I am feeling my old self again. I am in good spirits and actually accomplishing things around the house.

About a month ago, or longer, Jeff and I bought some paint. We need to paint our house, should have had the previous owners do it. I was just so excited to get this house and Jeff refused to budge on price, I negotiated down the things they needed to do before we moved in. I got my house and a butt load of work.

So today I painted the post that the mailbox sits on. I scrubbed the mail box clean and I planted 20 baby spider plants around the base of the mailbox pole. Lily helped me. We ended up getting paint all over Lily. I rushed her into the house to get her washed before it dried in her hair.

She ran her paint smeared fingers through...my new curtains, the walls, her eyes, her hair, the couch. She also painted the little reflective disks on the side of the mailbox and the little red flag. I got Lily all scrubbed. Got the paint off the furniture, walls, and curtains...then our water stopped working. I went outside and found that the water had quit working for the whole neighborhood. Great. I didn't get a chance to wash off the paint brushes, but I thought Lily's hair was more important at the time. Later when the water came back on I was able to scrub the paint off the reflective disks and the red flag. When Jeff was driving to pick up Mandy, he saw along the side of the road, a boil water advisory for our neighborhood. It was a hand written sign. OK, glad we went out. Welcome to Mississippi.

Maybe someday I will attempt to put some of the paint on the actual house. I wonder what would happen then? But, I now have the best looking mailbox on the block!

You are quite the tease, young lady. You talk of haircuts, but don't provide pictures. You talk of spider plants and a painted post, but don't provide pictures. What are we gonna do with you? :)

isn't it amazing how much extra work it is to do a painting project with a little one in tow? it's almost not worth it, but then again it is. i'm glad you got in done together and were still able to repair the damage.

At least you have something to show for all that paint.

Thanks for the smile. That is so funny to visualize.

Rotten time for the water to disappear but it sounds like you got the worst of the paint taken care of first. Our house, which we bought in May, needs so much work and my heart just isn't in it. You are a braver soul than I am to let Lily help with painting. My sons were not to be trusted with any job involving paint.

Lorelei, I was hoping my vivid descriptions would sufice.

Angel, it is on my to do list.

Mamadaisy, yes-everything is so much extra work, I am glad to have something to show for all our hard work. Ten minutes painting, 3 hours clean up!

Lynn, I am seriously considering hiring someone.

Meno, yes I was tired of hearing my dear husband complain about all the money we spent on paint which is sitting in the garage.

Mrs. Grumpy, Your welcome.

Shelia, I still have a lot of work to do too. I thought that since we were painting a post out in the yard surrounded by grass, what could go wrong. I didn't think about her hair or her hands until it was too late. Still she had fun and we enjoy looking at our mailbox.

I guess it must seem a little stupid to allow Lily to help me paint. While it did take longer I was able to accomplish more than just the painting of the post. I was looking for something for us to do in the sunshine, added bonus is painting helps with her fine motor skills, and I always feel a tad lonely working in the yard or whatever on my own, I love company. I guess if I had to do it again, I would put a hat on Lily and gloves, but I would still want her "help".

Great post Marsha. It's funny how the water always seems to go off at the most inconvenient times. You'll have to post a picture of your newly painted mailbox. Sounds like you and Lily had fun.
